Dr. Madsen grew up in Sacramento, California, played sports and learned how to play the piano.  He attended Brigham Young University and got his Bachelor of Arts in Music, Studio Production and Composition.  After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to work as a freelance arranger and orchestrator.  He worked as a staff arranger for Columbia Pictures Publications.  A few years passed, and he decided to change directions and follow his lifelong dream to become a doctor.  He enrolled at California Polytechnic University to complete his pre-requisites to apply to medical school.  He was accepted to the College Of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.  He was the only music major at the medical school.  Following graduation, he was accepted into the Family Medicine Residency at the San Bernardino County Medical Center.  In 1996, upon completion of his 3-year residency, 10 years after beginning his journey, he was recruited to Spokane, Washington, and was honored to acquire Dr. Lowell Horlacher's practice.  In September 2010, he and his wife, Carolyn, established Madsen Family Medicine, a solo family practice caring for all ages.  The practice is one of the few single doctor practices remaining in Spokane and strives to provide care the old fashioned way, with time to listen and to find treatment solutions.  Dr. Madsen is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Washington State University, Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.  The clinic serves as a teaching site for the medical students.  He is an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner and a Certified DOT Medical Examiner.  Every August, he and his wife, conduct pre-participation physicals for the student athletes of Mead and Mt. Spokane High Schools, and the Mountainside, Northwood, and Highland Middle Schools. Dr. Madsen is married to his best friend, Carolyn, and has 4 children, 2 stepchildren, 4 1/2 grandchildren, and Harley, a demanding Yorkie.
